Sacrament oil oand gold leaf on gessoed panel hand-gilded frame 325 x 430mm
This new collection of work features symbols familiar to those who have followed Lane’s work: hearts, hands, mountains, candles, gold leaf and rosary beads. Echoing the inspiration he continues to draw from art history through the ages Byzantine altarpieces, Italian frescoes, early Renaissance landscapes, and 17th century Spanish still-life, through to 20th century New Zealand icon, Colin McCahon.
Smaller votive-like works punctuate a suite of more expansive landscape based paintings. In each, the imagery is expressed across gessoed and waxed panels and contained within elegant, hand-gilded frames.
